Triple cigar style case.

I have been asked before to make a three pen version of my cigar style case. I could not think of a way to stabalise the three tubes so I have always declined to make one. I don’t like turning down orders or admitting defeat so this time I said yes with the proviso if it did not work we would look at other options. Here we go I started with the flat sheet kydex which I cut into strips heated and formed it around a suitable sized dowel. The next step was to weld the sides of the kydex  … Continue reading Triple cigar style case.

Workshop

So far my work area has been a granite slab 60 cm x 40 cm on some storage boxes and my old oak desk which also acts as a tool box. This is located in our dining room. My leather store is in the roof of the garage attached to the side of our house as this is about to become a utility room. I need to find somewhere else to work and store my tools and materials. My grand plan is to have a purpose built workshop in our back garden I have tried to call it an atelier … Continue reading Workshop

Slimline triple Emperor

I was asked by someone who has a full size Emperor case if I could make a slimline version but still have the brogue effect. I do like a challenge so this post will detail how I created this case. I formed three Kydex pen slots as I was aiming to make the case as slim as possible I reduced the height of the slot to match the diameter of the cap without the clip and the width to the diameter including the clip. Once I was happy with the diameter I wrapped the pen slots in suede. Making sure … Continue reading Slimline triple Emperor

The new Emperor

I think this is the first flat backed Emperor pen case I have made the others have all been the round style. As with all of my cases I started with flat stock kydex sheet suede and leather. The Kydex was heated until soft and pliable it was placed in a two piece mould and pressure was applied. Once the kydex had cooled I trimmed the excess and wrapped it in burgundy suede. Veg tanned leather was soaked in cold water and formed over the same mould before being dyed Mahogany. I spent quite a bit of time getting the … Continue reading The new Emperor

Not just another pen case

Not quite it is a case for a pen just not the type of pen you are thinking of.. My nephew came to stay with us and he has to carry an EpiPen it requires a protective case which I thought was a little boring. I started as always with the kydex tube which I wrapped in red suede. Checking the fit it is actually the same size as a Montblanc 149 perfect fit. Checking the fit of the top piece after stitching. Bright red suede and matching stitching. I usually off the option of a leather disc with the … Continue reading Not just another pen case

Electric blue triple Emperor

One of my Instagram followers asked me to make a triple pen case for Emperor sized pens. I started with flat sheet materials Kydex suede and leather here is the kydex sheet marked out ready. Using my hot air gun and a wooden form I moulded the kydex into three arch shapes. After trimming the kydex to size I started wrapping the arches in electric blue suede. Once the inner pen slots were finished I turned my attention to the outer cover. I soaked a piece of veg tanned leather in water and wet moulded it around another wooden form … Continue reading Electric blue triple Emperor

Notebook covers

My friends at Pen Opulence have a logo and I thought it would be interesting to emboss it onto a notebook. My first attempt involved carving the logo into wet leather. Here I have traced the image onto the wet leather. in this picture I have carved the design into the wet leather it is ok but not quite good enough. The next option is to use a raised image and to mould a piece of wet leather over the top of the image. Starting with a number of prints of the design I glued one to a piece of … Continue reading Notebook covers

Conid kingsize pen case

An Instagram follower asked if I could make a case for two Conid Kingsize fountain pens. The case is to be a cigar style case which is one of the most complex cases I make in effect it is two cases in one. Like any case it starts with flat materials like Kydex sheet. After applying some heat and with careful use of a wooden dowel I formed the sheet into cylinders. After welding and rounding over one end they have become tubes Once the tubes were cool I cut two strips of suede and stitched one end leaving about … Continue reading Conid kingsize pen case

Danitrio triple pen case

My latest commission is to make a three pen case to carry Danitrio Genkai fountain pens. Starting with flat sheet Kydex I made a new wooden form to produce the Kydex for the pen slots. After forming the Kydex I needed a new form for the leather outer I found a length of oak from the last large pen box I made. Which was exactly the right dimensions I only needed to round over the corners and sand it a little. This is the perfect size. Regular readers will know that wet veg tanned leather will form around a mould … Continue reading Danitrio triple pen case

Pendragon briefcase Restoration

You can see from the picture (below) Pendragon is a trade name of Papworth Industries now known as Papworth travel goods, it was originally formed as a Tuberculosis colony many years ago. The colony made many items to provide activity for patients as well as income. Over the years I have bought these case when ever I have had the chance and have occasionally restored them for sale. As with many products there were options available to the customer as time progressed the options changed zippered pockets inside and out were my favourites so when I saw a case … Continue reading Pendragon briefcase Restoration
