A pair of bags

My daughter asked me to help her to make a bag she bought a piece of tweed for the outside and I supplied a side of suede for the inside and some leather for the well you will see where the leather fits in.

Once the main body of the large bag was sewn together I made a base from the brown leather we had chosen. I used a brown linen thread by Barbour which I waxed by hand.

I edged around the flap in leather

The inside edge had a thicker band stitched in place to accommodate some rings to allow a piece of shock cord to act as a fastener. this is my practice piece

I had specific instructions regarding the strap mounts and followed them as best as I could these are the lower mounts.

The upper mounts are attached to the bag in line with the top lip of the bag.

After the strap mounts were stitched in place I made a buckle mount and strap which are both made in the same way except one has a point.

The first bag finished

I forgot to take any pictures of the straps but trust me it has two.

For the second bag I made set of templates

The next step was to make the pockets which I edged in leather and glued together.

The back panel also formed the front flap which I edged in leather

I started final assembly with the strap and a false buckle hiding a magnetic bag clasp.
